Mission

Ensign College’s Prison Education Program extends the mission of the College—and its assignment within the Church Educational System—to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ, even within correctional settings. Through accredited, high-quality certificate programs delivered in partnership with the Utah Department of Corrections and the Church’s Greater Salt Lake District, incarcerated students are invited into a transformative educational experience rooted in faith, accountability, and purposeful work.

Grounded in Ensign College’s distinctive focus on applied learning, the program offers stackable, industry-aligned certificates designed to build practical skills, professional confidence, and spiritual strength. Beginning with a Professional Foundations Certificate that integrates life skills, college readiness, professional development, and religious education, students develop the habits and competencies necessary for long-term success.

The Prison Education Program reflects Ensign College’s commitment to access, excellence, and redemption. By combining rigorous academics, career preparation, and spiritual growth, the program supports successful reintegration, reduces recidivism, and empowers students to build productive lives of integrity and contribution.
